1864
Friedrich W. Raifeisen, know as the "Father of the credit union movement," formed the Heddesdorf Credit Union in Rhine, Germany.
1880
Cooperative credit societies had spread all across Europe from Austria to France.
1901
Alphonse Desjardins and Henry Wolff opened La Caisse Populaire de Levis, the first credit union in the new world located in Levis, Canada.
1909
Edward A. Filene with help from Desjardins, opened the first credit union in the United States.
1921
The first state league was formed in Massachusetts. The same year was the inauguration of CUNEB which today is CUNA Mutual.
1929
Stock market crashes, banks close by the thousands while credit unions actually show substantial growth in size and numbers.
1934 - The Federal Credit Union Act was passed and signed into law by President Roosevelt.
1935 - CUNA Mutual Insurance Society was created to meet the movement's insurance needs.
1945-1955 - The Credit Union movement had almost doubled from 8,500 to 16,200; membership rose from 2.8 million to over 8 million.

Saint Luke's Hospital Employees Credit Union opens it's doors for business. Assets equal $7,792.40 and membership is 171.
1965
Five year anniversary, assets equal $36,082.28 and membership is up to 247.
1970
Ten years of operations is celebrated, assets equal $116,171.36 and membership is a sum total of 481.
1975
Fifteen years of service has been complete, assets equal $429,172.83 and membership is a whopping 1,443 in size.
1980
Twenty years young, assets equal $1.2 million and membership is a sum total of 2,135.
1985
The Silver anniversary, assets equal $2.9 million and membership is up to 2,737.
1990
A world of service, assets are up to $5.4 million membership equals 3,867.
1995
Building "YOUR" future, assets equal $8.7 million and membership levels out at 3,930.
2000
